He loves the kitten

She loves him

He picks her up by the ruff of her skin

It sags where his hand has been

He blinks – she's gone

Water shines in his wide almond eyes

He searches for her while she hides

Under a full moon

She tears the Thingduguit lantern

Deep in the monsoon rain

She is safe beneath a pink umbrella

He finds her 

Their noses kiss

She cries a small me-ow

Her jaw, a terrifying cage

where diamonds shine 

A ruby cave

Teeth glisten like pomegranate seeds.
